So what is the best design for the acrylic light boxes?

I have been combing the forums and searching local options for the best design for the light box signs "Police Box".

Currently, I am thinking that a piece of white transparent acrylic with a black vinyl overlay in the front with the letters cut out is the way to go. Perhaps a thin piece of acrylic in front of that to make it all damage resistant.

I am seeing a lot of designs with the vinyl template in the back on clear acrylic, and vinyl used as a mask with several coats of black paint and a final white transparent coat of white after the lettering has been removed as options.

For those who have walked this path before, what would you recommend? Any comments appreciated!
